It was barely 8 o'clock in the evening here in California when Obama was projected winner - not even 8:30 when McCain offered his concession.
People are crying. I'm ecstatic.
333 electoral votes and counting. "Landslide" doesn't even begin to describe this.
Now the idea I and so many others had of having to stay up late tonight, chewing off our fingernails in a repeat of 2000 seems silly.
Barack not only got the blue states, but key red states as well.
He nabbed Pennslyvania almost right away. Then Ohio. And just some minutes ago, Florida.
Hope always wins.

Unfortunately, the gay marriage bans have passed in Arizona and probably in Florida as well. :( I'm biting my nails, waiting to see how California comes out. It's already 10:30, and i plan to stay up until I know.

I try not to think about it for more than a second or two, or else I start crying. lol
I'm scared, civilian military force? Universal Health care? How are we going to pay for these things. I think he has promised things he cannot deliver and worse these are all things that Hitler imposed in Germany. I hope these things are not true. I hope that he hangs on to the constitution. You see my problem with Obama is that aside from party affiliation he's not that much different than Bush. Look at where Pres. Bush took us. Obama will take us out of Iraq, big deal, I'm more interested in getting back the freedoms we lost under Pres. Bush. I don't see Obama doing that. Ok, I'm done venting.

I think Obama understands that Bush isn't just about Iraq, but the loss of freedom. Read what he says, not what others say about him. You might be surprised.
Can't we just be thrilled for a minute? Everyone? Please? This is HISTORY. This is a good man. Give him the benefit of the doubt.
Ok, I'm not comparing him to Hitler. What I'm trying to say, very poorly here, is this; between Bush and Obama I'm not sure there is a huge difference. As far as the civilian force, he said in one of his addresses that he will institute and civilian military force just as well funded, well organized and effective as the current military. That worries me. That is what I'm talking about shades of Hitler, not that he is just like him. I'm honestly excited to be a part of history. I do not begrudge anyone their joy in the moment. I am glad that the dark time in our history is over where the color of your skin mattered. I only care that the rights taken from me under pres. Bush are restored and that he clings-literally to the constitution. I apologize if I offended, I did not mean to compare him directly to Hitler, gosh I'm horrible at writing. I'm speaking in generalities as far as all politicians. Repulicans are not exempt as far as I'm concerned Bush has done much damage in the way of subverting the constitution to fit his own agenda. Making the government bigger is NOT the answer. More programs, more taxes, (and there will be), more social liberalism will not solve the world of intolerance and bigotry. I am honored that I live in a country who clearly sent a message that the color of a persons skin does not matter. I think most Americans truly feel that way and wanted to affirm that (partially) thru this election. While I disagree wholeheartedly with most of his agenda he will still be my pres. and I will try (very hard) to make peace with it and not be contentious. I had to check myself during the elections and sit down with my kids and explain that "Rock Obama" is not bad. That he is a good person but we just don't like his ideas. Thankfully I really have taught my children to be loving and kind so my girls instantly realize that Mommy might have been a little unkind. They however, were not. They said "Mommy I don't like what Rock Obama said but he is very nice to people." They never commented about the color of his skin which WILL stay that way. They are now able to understand a little bit that it's ok to not like what someone is saying but still like and respect them. Maybe I'm doing something right. Anyway, sorry this is so long, but I couldn' stand the fact that I might have offended and that I'm a terrible writer/editor. I hope that you understand what I mean this time around, or maybe I should just not write stuff anymore and stick to reading, that I'm good at. ;-)

I'm doing some research right now about social democracies, and once I feel like I know enough, I want to discuss it - I think it merits discussion.
Anyway, Heather - I hope you don't think I think you're racist. I don't think everyone who voted McCain is racist (some probably are, but like we discussed before, there's reverse racism on Obama's side. It's all wrong).
With all that Obama has on his shoulders, he needs our prayers and our support. I'm glad you're willing to try :) I think most people, once they get over their shock, will be willing as well.
We just went through eight years of...well, crap. We've got hope now. It's up to us, too. I think that's awesome. We have to remember, too, that the President is not all-powerful...unlike what President Bush seems to think, haha.
